Beginning of the Advent Fasting in the Coptic Church
Today marks the beginning of the fast of the Nativity (the Advent) in our Coptic Church. We implore our Lord, who completed our salvation by coming down to redeem us from the bondage of sin, to help us to do what is pleasing in His sight during this holy fast and through all the days of our lives.
Consecration of the Church of St.Abu-Nofer
On this day also was the consecration of the Church of St. Abu-Nofer, the hermit, which was in El-Zaher, Misr (Cairo).
Martyrdom of St.Yostus, the Bishop
Today also, is the commemoration of the martyrdom of St. Yostus, the bishop, by the hands of Maximus the prince. He tortured him severely and finally he received the crown of martyrdom.

هلم إلى الطفل يسوع في المغارة تأملات ميلادية انتظر الرب يسوع حتى أخذ كل واحد مكاناً له في فندق، أو عند قريب أو صديق، أو أحد أهل الخير المضيافين… ووصل آخر الكل…وكأنه يودّ لنا أن نكون مرتاحين آمنين… وهو؟… لايهمّ… أنا يكفيني هذه المغارة…التي سأجعل من مذودها عرشي… وإليها سيأتي القاصي والداني ليسجد لي مع المجوس… لا أريد لي مكاناً على هذه الأرض… مكاني السماء… هناك مجدي الذي أخليته من أجلكم… أخذت صورة العبد كي أخدمكم… أبدلت لكم هذا الطعام الحيواني التبن في المذود) إلى طعام روحاني سماوي… جسدي المكسور من أجل خلاص العالم…..خبز الحياة الذي من يأكل منه يحيا إلى الأبد… طبيعة جديدة اتركوا العالم وما هو للعالم، وتعالوا إليّ يا كل المتعَبين بأثقال الخطايا، فأريحكم منها… أعطيكم صكّ حرّيتكم من الخطيئة….بطاقة سفر باتّجاه واحد إلى الملكوت… أزيح عنكم الغضب الموعود به لأبناء المعصية…. جئت لأجدّد طبيعتكم الفاسدة بالخطية… أنا آدم الثاني المنتصر على الشيطان وتجاربه وحيله… إن بقيتم بطبيعة آدم الأول، فلن تروا الملكوت، بل اللعنة والغضب… تخلّصوا من الأول!… واحملوا الثاني… الأول أورثكم الموت والذل والهوان، وأوقعكم تحت غضب الله… أما أنا فجدّدت لكم طبيعتكم… طهّرتها… قدّستها… فصرتم أهلاً (من جديد) للميراث… آدم الأول محكوم عليه بالموت… أما أنا منحتكم الحياة… الإنسان الجديد فلنخلع أحبائي الإنسان القديم… إنسان الخطيئة والموت واللعنة والغضب… ولنلبس الثاني الذي حرّرنا من كل هذا… فلنعتمدْ على اسمه القدوس، فيموت الأول ويُدفن في جرن المعمودية، ويقوم إنساناً جديداً طاهراً من كل إثم، غير محكوم عليه بعد… لا يعبر إلى الدينونة… فإن أصرّينا على الأول، فالويل لنا… ولنأكل جسد الثاني… الغذاء الروحي… الخبز النازل من السماء… فيسؤي في أبداننا نسغ الحياة، وتتغذّى نبتة الحياة فينا فتبقى خضراء وارفة… هلمّ إلى الطفل يسوع في المغارة… خالعين حتى الرداء النجس من إنساننا العتيق… فنحصل على الدفء… على الرحمة والسلام… على الحب الخالص… فمن يتأمل في الميلاد، يودّ لو يبقى أبد الدهر في المغارة… هناك حيث Ps:85:10 ” الرحمة والحق التقيا. البر والسلام اجتمعا”…
